our philosophy

Our philosophy is that to provide excellent orthopaedic care, and to offer the right treatment for the right patient, it is critical to get to know our patients well. We try to take the time to get to know each patient's needs and goals and to help them understand their treatment options; this may mean that less patients pass through the office each day, but we try to make sure that each patient is as satisfied with their treatment as it is possible to make them.

new referrals

Specialist services in Canada are only by referral from another physician. If you’ve been seen by us in the last six months, you can call us directly. Referrals are accepted by fax at 1 (888) 852-1424, or by email at botsford.orthopaedics@gmail.com

New referrals for hip and knee replacements are seen and triaged in North island Hip and Knee Clinics at Comox Valley Hospital and Campbell River Hospital by referral from a physician.

Dr Botsford does not see patients on a private pay basis. He does not perform Independent Medical Examinations for medical legal cases.

wait times

Dr Botsford reviews every referral received, and tries to triage them based on the information provided in the referral as well as by reviewing the X-rays of every referral. Please be aware that we receive an average of 30 new referrals a week, and there are not enough spaces in the weekly schedule to see this many patients and give them quality care. This means that a routine referral can take 2 years to be seen.

If you feel that your condition is deteriorating to the point that you are unable to wait this long, please consider seeing your family physician for reassessment and asking them either to send an update on your condition or a referral to another surgeon.

Surgical waitimes vary depending on the procedure. The current wait for joint replacement is 6 months to 1 year from the time of booking the surgery.
